The lesson behind the sample

One lesson. Two drills. Then the decision is yours.

Lesson 1.2 pairs the question above with its authored explanation and a related half-pot exercise. A recording of the lesson is planned; it is not available yet.

Until it exists, the sample decision above shows the same drill.
  1. Drill 1.2-b · choose

    Six value combinations, pot-sized bet

In the fully polarized heads-up river model, you bet pot with six value combinations. How many bluff combinations balance the range: 2, 3, 4 or 6?

  2. Explanation · understand

    Two value for every bluff

At a pot-sized bet the model’s ratio is two value combinations to one bluff, so six value combinations balance with three bluffs: one-third of the betting range.

  3. Drill 1.2-c · continue

    Change the numbers

The pot is 100 and you bet 50. What fraction of the betting range is bluffs now? One quarter: one bluff for every three value combinations. Changing the bet size changes the mix.

Lesson 1.2, drills 1.2-b and 1.2-c, as authored in the curriculum. These ratios follow the model’s assumptions; they are not a rule to apply blindly against every river opponent.

After you subscribe

Your first three study sessions

  1. Make the first decision.

Follow the appropriate lesson prerequisites, then use lesson 1.2 to work through a river value-to-bluff example. Choose an answer and read the explanation.

  2. Change the numbers.

Practise the related half-pot exercise and explain why the bluff fraction changes.

  3. Try it without the formula.

Return to the lesson's existing correction-and-transfer task: derive the bluff fraction and combination count for half-pot, pot and overbet sizes with the formula hidden from view.

A study path you can continue. Full Academy brings the lessons and related practice into one membership. Work through a concept, make a decision, understand the explanation, and continue through the curriculum.

Where the curriculum goes next and what membership includes

Lesson 1.2 belongs to the foundation tier of the six-max cash curriculum. Lesson 1.1 on pot odds and equity comes before it, and lesson 1.3 on minimum defence frequency follows. The third activity above is an instruction inside the lesson, not an automatically assigned or graded new session. Lessons show their sources inside the product.
